Transformations and Connections, 2022

1.6 x 50 cm

Remade discarded stuffed toys 112 pcs. Umbilical cord (physical and psychological) metaphor, the main problem is attachment, its conclusion is letting go. Attachment to childhood images in adult life playing with childhood images as means of expression. Childhood images not only as an object, but also as an emotion, which can be complex. Also the question of the fate of the object (what are discarded toys used for). The problem of climate change, excessive consumption. The idea came from a personal image from my childhood: in the house where I grew up, my grandmother used to collect toys. And that collection is expanding rapidly. A strange feeling came over me, as if I regretted what all this abundance was for. I felt the “burden” I had to carry and unconsciously carried it into my adult life. The work took part in: 2022 06 – 08 in the personal installation “Transformations and Connections” in the Užupis Art Incubator (LT), 2022 09 06 – 23 in the group exhibition “Revising Connections” in the textile art gallery “Artifex” ( LT), 2023 05 – 2023 08 Textile Art Biennale BIEN “The SUN”, Slovenia EU, Globus space (Slovenia, Kranj), June 3 – 14, 2024 solo exhibition “Transformations and Connections”, Jonas Mekas Visual Arts Center, in the context of VAA Graduation Show 2024 (LT, Vilnius).
