The Tears of The Tree, 2025

210 x 20 cm

Wood and wall paint

The landscape is populated by different types of creatures, and perhaps the landscape is on another planet or in another time, or here and now but invisible to the human eye. Time is distorted, and the past, the present and future coexist in a poetic sliding state. The installation is a snapshot of a moment in time that we can now observe from all angles. The story is long, but to fit this format, the narrator has chosen to summarize part of it. It goes like this: Once upon a time, there was a tree standing in a forest surrounded by other tall trees. A human came to the forest and began chopping at the tree until it was no longer recognizable. The tree now displayed a geometric chopping pattern. We may ask ourselves why, but does it matter? We all know that humans want to shape and leave their mark on the world. The human left the place, but the tree remained. Time passed and the trees surrounding it began to fall and die until only ‘our’ tree remained. The once majestic forest now became a thorny open field. The tangled vegetation ate away at the trees lying on the ground until there was nothing left. The chopped up tree could now more easily sense the presence of the creatures moving around the edges of the landscape. There was no longer anything to muffle the sound of feet walking on the ground and rubbish rattling in the distance. Sometimes the sounds came closer, sometimes they were just a faint noise far away. The work is exhibited at Bildmuseet in Umeå, Sweden.
