“Swan I” is straight to the point. It represents the maturing of a teenager through the discovery of phonography and masturbation. In another context it also represents the killing of the innocent childhood dream. The swan in the painting represents the phallic object of a male and also correlates to purity and naivety. It’s the murder and simulated act of creation. The idea of a swan being chocked was somehow clear to me, the saying “choke the goose” came to mind, but the swan is a rather primitive and innocent motif which more accurately spoke about the loss of purity.
