The work brings together the aesthetic of 1980s New York graffiti and a naïve painterly approach. Greetings to Navitrolla!

Summer Assignment condenses the atmosphere of procrastination and last-minute urgency, a state in which time seems to stretch and lose its usual rhythm. The work moves between the fear of missing out and the pleasure of missing out — on the one hand, the nagging sense that something important is happening elsewhere; on the other, a conscious decision to step aside, observe, and take pleasure in one’s own slow moment.

An allegorical figure emerges in the painting: a snowman-rabbit who has found a cloud of its own. The cloud functions as shade, a protective layer, and a temporary refuge, enabling the figure to cope with the heat of summer. Much like the small breathing spaces sought through postponing obligations, the cloud offers a way to exist within a contradictory condition — on the verge of melting, yet still enduring.

Summer Assignment speaks to a state in which the pressure of productivity recedes, giving way to experimentation, playfulness, and the acceptance of impermanence. It is a story of deliberate non-participation, where leaving things to the last moment is not a weakness but a means of survival and a way of creating one’s own rhythm.

The work is exhibited at the Tartu Annual Art Exhibition from 19 December 2025 to 25 January 2026. In the event of a purchase, the work can be collected after the exhibition has ended.
