“pretty boy” references the Estonian expression “iluspoiss,” an often derogatory term for feminine or homosexual men. The abstracted figure is built from corroded metal and an old belt, with a curved pipe in place of a penis – onto which the phrase ‘pretty boy’ is welded. The work portrays the violent ways masculinity is policed and identities branded onto people, often against their will.
