Pinky’s Dream, 2023

Pinky’s Dream is a soft abstraction in which delicate pinks drift like memories, all of them muted and gentle. Beneath this calm surface lies a state of transformation that is physical, emotional, and embodied.
I painted this work in a fog, a mental blur shaped by personal transformation. From a child to an adult, from being small to becoming a mountain, from being invisible to becoming unmovable. During this period everything felt heavy, pink, tender, and confusing. I remember little of the painting process itself. What remains is the feeling: the urge to move forward, the awareness that a former self was slowly dissolving, and the impulse to run. Each evening I returned to the canvas. I mixed the same pale pink on my palette, a colour that felt like the safest place on earth, while the real one felt increasingly unfriendly. Layer after layer, I breathed inside this imagined space, hoping it would hold me longer. It never did. The painting, however, remains. Sometimes hiding is no longer an option. Soft pink may offer comfort, but it also prolongs transformation. At times it is necessary to stay within it long enough to recognise this. Eventually, one must step into uncertainty, because the dreamy world is no longer a safe place. There is one small dark detail in the painting that resembles a door. An open door that was always open. It is almost oxblood in colour, distant and unsettling at first glance. Yet this opening marks the only possible exit. It is the place I had to step into in order to end the game of hiding and seeking. This work is a quiet attempt to forget. To float. To be soft. To vanish gently.
