“The view from my grandmother’s veranda to the garden is one of my earliest childhood memories. Plum and apple trees, with plenty of gooseberry bushes in between — I can still recall the exact taste of their fruit. I’ve spent most of my summer days there throughout my life. Now, sitting on the veranda, this view has become almost iconic to me. In this way, I still return to my grandmother’s garden every summer to paint. In her photo album, there are a dozen photographs — me and the neighbor girls, spending our bright childhood days in that very garden… While painting, they sometimes reveal themselves on the canvas once more.”
