Bronze, aluminum, lead, plastic, thread

My final work for my bachelor’s of Sculpture was solo exhibition ,,Flash” which took place at the diy space named Retrito Smarsas (Vilnius, Lithuania). The exhibition examines the transformation of routine into ritual – ritualized routine. The objects emerged from observing the rhythms of everyday life, which are inevitably influenced by economic and social phenomena. The ongoing search for identity, addictions are few problematized topics that became a part of research field. ,,Flash” consists of different sculptural objects that merge with the space, creating their own order and rhythm. Objects need to be discovered, looked at closely. The exhibition seems to split in two. ,,Straws” – tool for a sterile breathing – plastic straws’ bronze casts, are rhythmically arranged on the wall, followed by the symbol of a good day’s work – the silver-plated tobacco rolled cigarette’s butt (bronze) – ,,Little Cigi”. On the windowsills, as if it had been here, sits the work ,,Our time”. The work consists of aluminum cigarette butts, beer cans, and coins made out of lead. In the middle of the space there are floor objects ,,Mats (Shavasana)” – colorful ‘yoga mats’ sewn from empty tobacco packs. Paradox. This whole visual image is complemented by a golden women’s middle finger, bronze cast – ,,Attitude”. ,,Flash” is not only the exhibition about ritual and/or routine practices, it is also a critical position on the health and legal intoxicants – smoking and alcohol, industries.
