Art critic Vappu Thurlow wrote in her article “Freedom, Weight, Freedom”, published in Sirp on November 30, 2007:

“A textile artist puts into their work what’s on their mind — what they’ve recently come to understand, what they cannot move past without expressing. There is nothing more human than Erika Tammpere’s tapestry ‘Per aspera ad astra’ (Through Hardship to the Stars), which reflects an internal struggle, a striving toward a goal despite significant obstacles. The upward-leading ladders constantly veer off course and must be straightened again and again, yet a vast distance still separates the ground from the celestial heights. Deviation is also insightfully addressed in her work ‘Errare humanum est’ (To Err is Human), where mysterious colours are arranged into upright forms: when our form is disciplined, we may err in substance — or the other way around… I still remember my surprise around 2002, when I first saw Tammpere’s Keeper of Fire — yet another unique piece in the landscape of Estonian tapestry.”
