Design research is accompanied by a critical, conceptual and in-depth look at the process of making an object. Analysing the proximity of the slow, felt process, the interaction between design and intuition is highlighted, creating intermediate states of the author. The sense of closeness is revealed through the contemplative gaze and the slow thinking with the hand, where the hand becomes an extension of thought, and the experience of the materials from within them forms authentic, pure knowledge. In design practice, closeness manifests itself through the stages of doubt, tension and the search for “next”, which describe the process of forming an intimate relationship. The intermediate forms act as a matter of exploration and creative responses, embodied in the form of functional objects such as the bench, the console and the space divider. These objects reflect the fixation of in-between states – through the intuitive deformation of the rectangular form, dictated by the properties of the materials (copper sheet, net and alder wood). The formation of creative closeness becomes a liberation of the artist’s decisions – inviting to explore the objects as open phenomena in intermediate forms with a slow gaze.
