The work emerged during a time when the artist felt that everything around her was growing and blooming—except for herself. Life seemed fragile, as if the ground beneath her feet were shifting and each step could lead to falling face-first into the mud. The notion of a dark spring became a metaphor for this stage of life.
At times weeks passed without weaving. At other times she spent hours building a surface only to unravel it again. The final element of the piece was the flower’s core. Finding yarn with the right tone and effect took time, but when the work was finally completed, the artist realised that despite the dark spring, she too had been blooming.
