Children's book "The Stolen Sun", 2025

18 x 18 cm

Procreate, digital illustration, printed

The aim of this project was to create an illustrated children’s book based on the classic work “The Stolen Sun” by Korney Chukovsky. This fairy tale is one of the most well-known works in Russian children’s literature and has been published in many different versions and formats.
My goal was to adapt the story for Estonian-speaking children by developing both the visual and narrative elements to suit their cultural and perceptual context. Illustrating a children’s book is a multilayered and time-consuming process. Since this was my first experience in this field, I started by researching the local children’s book market and reading articles about the importance of illustrations in a child’s development and perception. This project helped me better understand the significant role that books and visual design play in a child’s life. A total of 14 illustrations were created for this project (13 for the inner pages and 1 for the cover). The work gave me a creative direction that I wish to continue following in the future. This work was exhibited at Pallas Gallery, Tartu in June 2025.
