“Urg” is a symbolic depiction of the surveillance society. Contemporary life unfolds within a constant flow of information, while privacy—especially in urban environments—has become increasingly fragile. At the same time, it is often unclear who is watching us, who is collecting our data, and how that information is being used.
The painting depicts a plastic nest-like hoodie, from whose interior a vigilant camera eye peers outward. It may suggest a surveillance camera—or perhaps the laser sight of a weapon—leaving the viewer uncertain whether the gaze represents observation or potential threat.
