Blade Of Grass, 2025

380 x 200 cm

Teras

This work talks about the search for direction and the journey that goes with it. Looking at a simple motif – a blade of grass – I try to capture a feeling that seems self-evident in nature: the blade of grass reaches towards the sun, bending in the wind without losing its inner direction. Direction is necessary for movement, even if the destination is initially unknown. The tone often seems clearer to a blade of grass than to the human ear. The winds that batter people are more chaotic and the crossroads are many, but even from the occasional sounds that reach us, a rough direction can be deduced. That direction, however, is all you need to enjoy and trust the journey. In “Blades of Grass”, my journey is expressed through process and material. The direction of each arc and curve has been dictated by the elastic and plastic nature of the material, which my hands have sought to listen to and amplify, giving each grass blade curves blown by its own winds. The grass field, frozen in the moment when the vital heat of the iron disappeared and the force of the power hammer faded.
