The artist´s comment on the artwork: “Two villages near the Latvian-Estonian border. One, Estonia’s Penuja, and the other, Arakste, at Latvia’s most northern point. The Latvian spoken in Arakste has noticable Estonian phonetic influence. Language there used contains adapted Estonian words, however with differing application of Estonian phonetics and diacritics, making it unintelligible to Estonian speakers. It is a transformation into a separate, third language – Estonian sounds, diacritics, and even grammar, with Latvian grammatic structure.”
