Cotton textile, hand embroidery
The work tells the story of Lena and Sasha, who escaped from the occupied city of Mariupol with their son and Lena’s mother. At first, they sought shelter in the basement of a former hospital located 300 metres from their home. Later, they travelled 3000 km from their hometown, through Russia, to Võru in Estonia, where they now live. The artist first met them while volunteering at the Narva border crossing in April 2022, and they have remained in contact ever since. Lena and Sasha generously shared their stories and agreed to their inclusion in the exhibition, for which the artist is deeply grateful.
