Ville Karlsson

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Ville Karlsson (b. 1994) is a Helsinki-based artist currently studying at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Department of Time and Space.

His artistic practice is centered on exploring poetics, semantics, and image, often creating site- and situation-specific compositions and sounds. His work frequently takes the form of small gestures, fleeting thoughts, or something that lies in between the tangible and the intangible. These ideas sometimes materialize as objects, text, or ephemeral elements like sound or air, capturing moments that may otherwise be overlooked or deemed insignificant.

Ville’s work often engages with the ontology of things—their essence or existence—questioning the importance or seeming nothingness of the objects and moments he explores. He is drawn to uncertainty, complexity, and the banal, utilizing easily accessible methods such as phone recordings or collected fragments. His pieces frequently feel abstract, fractured, or incomplete, capturing the poetic yet elusive qualities of everyday life and momentary interactions.
