To improve her ability to express herself visually, Stīna Skulme first earned a bachelor's degree in cinematography. Later, she chose to further her knowledge by studying painting. Her cinematic perspective remained, but during her studies, conversations with her instructors broadened her understanding of the complexity and diversity of art. By experimenting with various media, brushstrokes, surfaces, and styles, she acquired a deeper knowledge of painting techniques.

The knowledge she gained allows the artist to work more freely with the form of her pieces, and it has taught her to think seriously and confidently about content as well.
