Sirja-Liisa Eelma (born 1973 in Tallinn) graduated from the department of painting at the Estonian Academy of Arts in 1996 and has participated in exhibitions since 1994. While being known as a conceptual painter (”Secret Matter“in Hobusepea gallery, 2003; ”Õ><Ö“ in Tallinn City Gallery, 2006) and as a drawing artist (”Everyday Vocabulary“ in Hobusepea gallery, 2006; ”3,14“ in Hobusepea gallery, 2008), Sirja-Liisa Eelma’s body of work also includes several site-specific and social art projects. Eelma’s balanced artistic output is based on her image study, conceptual thought and technical perfection in painting whereas the artist has focused on the expectations and fears associated with hidden or even non-existent objects.
