Sasha Rotts

Sasha Rotts (b.1985) is an artist and art historian from St.Petersburg, Russia based in Helsinki.
After graduating from Stieglitz Academy (art history department), she used to work in the Museum of Russian Art (The department of Soviet graphic). In 2008-2009 she was a student at the Pro Arte institute in St.Petersburg in the department of contemporary art. In 2008 Rotts took part in the first Moscow Biennale for young art Stop! Who's Coming? In 2009 Sasha with her partner founded an artistic duo SASHAPASHA.
After moving to Finland in 2015 she got accepted (in 2016) and graduated (in 2020) Vapaa Taidekoulu (Free Art School). The graduation show Etiäinen took place in Forum Box gallery in July 2020. Currently, Sasha Rotts is studying her MFA at the Academy of Fine Arts in the Painting department.
In 2015, 2018, 2019 and February 2020 Rotts as a part of SASHAPASHA duo was a resident in the art residencies in Russia: Arsenal (Nizhny Novgorod), Zarya (Vladivostok), Vyksa art residency (Vyksa city), PolArt residency (Norilsk).
In March 2020 in the Exhibition Laboratory (Helsinki) artistic duo SASHAPASHA presented the result of their 5-years long project Kanava dedicated to the history of the Soviet labour camp system GULAG.
In April 2020 Sasha Rotts was awarded the Kone Home Residency grant with her embroidery project. The exhibition based on that project's results took place in Live gallery in September 2021.
Rotts’ works are in the collections of CCA Zarya (Vladivostok), Vyksa city museum, Art-re-Flex Gallery (St.Petersburg), Norilsk city museum and Finnish Art
