Artist's country of origin: Finland
Salla Kemppi is a finnish sculptor, based in Turku. She is a graduate of Turku Arts academy, Fine Arts as a visual artist. Kemppi’s works are material-based and multimaterial with a strong philosophical dimension. In recent years she has been working on textile sculptures, mainly hand-sewn from used clothes. Kemppi has had a solo exhibition in Turku’s B-gallery and has participated in several group exhibitions, including the 97th & 99th annual exhibitions of the Turku Artists’ Association.
“Sewing by hand is slow and mechanical. Repetitive way of working helps me to concentrate and requires and trains patience. Working method allows me to take distance from thoughts, while offering the opportunity to not think anything. Through sculpture, I construct emotions and thoughts into a physical object that can be viewed from outside the self.”
