Rugilė Bernadeta Matuzaitė (b. 1999) is a Lithuanian artist working in installation, sculpture, and mixed media. She holds a Master’s degree in Site-specific Art from the Vilnius Academy of Arts. Her work focuses on the human body in relation to artificial materials and constructed forms. In the ongoing project Homo Artificialis, she uses silicone, PET plastic, heating elements and materials commonly associated with medical use to create sculptural objects that resemble modified or synthetic body parts. Her work explores the human body through artificial materials and controlled forms. In the ongoing project Homo Artificialis, she uses silicone, PET plastic, heating elements, and medically associated materials to create sculptural objects that reference altered or synthetic body parts. Matuzaitė explores materiality, physicality and how artificial elements change our perception of the body. Her works are often tactile, fragmented and situated between clinical and personal space.
