Rauno Thomas Moss
Artist's country of origin: Estonia
Rauno Thomas Moss (born 1977 in Tallinn) is an Estonian artist and graphic designer, who became known and earned widespread attention with his series of black-and-white and autoerotic nude paintings. With echoes of 19th century medical operations, Moss exhaustively mines the intersection of his own childhood memories and experiences in a vivid and slightly dreamlike surrealistic alienation. The result is disturbing and memorable.
Moss studied painting at the University of Tartu under professor Jaan Elken. In addition to painting, Moss has also studied semiotics in University of Tartu (1998–2002) under professors Peeter Torop and Mihhail Lotman. He later became a lecturer at his alma mater, being responsible for courses of human anatomy for artists, lectures in drawing, theory of composition and color. Moss is a member of the Estonian Artists´ Association since 2008.
