Paula Mickutė Emerging artist

Paula Mickutė

Artist is based in: Lithuania

Paula Mickutė is a Lithuanian artist whose practice bridges mythology, memory, and contemporary painting. She studied site-specific art and fresco-mosaic before discovering a deep passion for oil painting, which has since become central to her work. While she had little formal training in the arts before entering the Vilnius Academy of Arts, her four years of study became a personal search for style and artistic voice, culminating in the decision to share her inner world through painting.

Her graduation project Laumės Are Everywhere reimagines the Laumės—mythological beings from Lithuanian folklore—not as distant figures of the past, but as living presences woven into her own reality. Through mixed media, acrylic, and oil painting, Mickutė creates a two-way journey between herself and these mythic beings: as she approaches them through her art, they enter her life as symbols of freedom, childhood wonder, and cultural belonging. This project intertwines mythology with personal memories of growing up close to nature, family traditions, folk songs, and rituals, transforming Laumės into guides that connect past and present, myth and contemporary identity
