Artist is based in: Estonia
Mari Prekup (1984) has in recent years focused on layers of folk culture and their contemporary interpretations, moving from everyday rituals and the symbolic realm of sacred grove trees toward the worldviews of Finno-Ugric and neighbouring peoples. Her works do not offer readymade answers but instead open a space in which remembering becomes both a sacred and fragile act. Prekup holds an MA in printmaking from the Estonian Academy of Arts (2015). She has actively participated in the art scene through exhibitions, performance-based artistic practice, and organisational work, and has received several recognitions, including the Eduard Wiiralt Young Artist Award.
