Liisi Örd
Artist is based in: Estonia
Liisi Örd holds a Master’s degree in painting from the University of Tartu. Her work is characterised by a sensitive and contemplative approach, where visual language speaks of silence, melancholy and the inner strength of the Northern landscape. Örd’s painting style can be described as a form of “broken realism” – at times closely tied to precise depiction, at times shifting towards abstraction and perceptual space. Form never dominates the idea; instead, it grows out of what the artist considers essential at a given moment. This creates works that are visually diverse and conceptually layered.
Landscape painting, especially working directly from nature, holds a particularly important place in her practice. Örd captures the quiet, clarity and subtle melancholy of the Nordic environment, yet her works are not merely depictions of landscape. They create a space where the viewer can experience something deeper than what is visible: a moment in which light breaks through the forest, marking a transition from darkness to brightness. It is a fragile yet powerful threshold state, where light is not just a motif but an active force that shapes space, tension and depth.
Liisi Örd’s work has also gained recognition on the art market. Her paintings have been presented at Estonian art auctions on several occasions and have found their way into private collections, affirming her visibility and valued position within contemporary Estonian painting.
