Keithy Kuuspu
Artist's country of origin: Estonia
Keithy Kuuspu (born on November 24, 1994, in Tallinn) is an Estonian performance and dance artist, director, and choreographer. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in choreography from the Baltic Film, Media, Arts and Communication School of Tallinn University and obtained a master’s degree in Contemporary Physical Performance Making from the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre. Since 2021, she has been pursuing a master’s degree in ceramics at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
In her artistic practice, Kuuspu explores the definition and boundaries of reality, focusing on primitive aspects of human behavior, mundane structures, and societal influences on individuals. She is particularly interested in the periods before and after creative processes and self-formation within these contexts. She combines visual and performance art, seeking connections between the body and material.
Among Kuuspu’s notable works are “False Falling” (2021, Independent Dance Stage), “Body Slam / Ihu ramm” (2022, with Liisa Saaremäel), and “Paus istu mine” (2023, Independent Dance Stage). She has also participated in international projects, including the Estonian pavilion exhibition “Home Stage” at the 18th Venice Architecture Biennale in 2023.
In 2022, Kuuspu received the Kristallkingakese (Crystal Shoe) award, presented to two young performing artists for their first significant stage works.
