Katrina Lipsane Emerging artist
Artist is based in: Latvia
Katrīna Lipšāne is an artist working with installations and site-specific projects. She graduated from the Environmental Art Department at the Art Academy of Latvia and is currently pursuing her master’s studies there. My interests are constantly shifting, like a news feed. Sometimes changes happen within a single day, sometimes over a year, but one thing seems to stay the same, the process. It begins with a thought that is not yet clear, drawn from personal experience, continues through reflections influenced by books or films, and ends in a search for material and form. Many themes appear in this cycle, but never just one. It is more like a news page, thoughts passing through my mind: the wish to belong, anxiety stirred by bad news, hope that everything will be alright, and the simple reality that we are just human. I try to understand it for myself but leave space for the viewer to find their own way. I like games, disguise, and things that do not need to have a fixed meaning. My practice is about the ability to see and to form relationships, with myself (tricky), with space (easier), and with the viewer (uncertain). Finding balance between digital and material is important. Construction and planning mostly happen digitally, while the final outcome emerges in materials such as organic glass and fabric. Thinking feels necessary. Seeing feels necessary.
