Johanna Sulalampi

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Sulalampi is a multidisciplinary artist based in Southern Finland. She/they are working across a range of media, sound as her primary point of departure. Sulalampi’s work remains porous to time and context, and her artistic expression moves fluidly between mediums. She works as a freelancer in the fields of music, sound art, and sculpture, and as an artistic sound and video designer for performing arts. Sulalampi graduated from the University of the Arts Helsinki, Theatre Academy in 2023 with a degree in sound design, and the sculpture master studies broaden her artistic expression.

Sulalampi’s multimedia works have been exhibited in the research pavilion of the Helsinki Biennale 2023. Commissioned works include multimedia composition for Danish ensemble K!ART in 2022 and contemporary music composition for German ensemble Trio Abstrakt in 2024. Her electroacoustic 3D composition was awarded silver place in 2022 in the student competition held by the German Association for Audio Professionals (VDT). And her electroacoustic compositions have been played at the ORF Musikprotokoll festival in Austria and at the Opera Beyond festival, Finnish National Opera and Ballet. She has achieved recognition for her technically skilled studies in audio-technical designs from Risto Mäenpään Säätiö, and her unique style of artistic expression has received encouraging critique in the nationally important newspaper Helsingin Sanomat in summer 2025.
