Gertrūda Rumzytė (born in 1999) journey in textile art began with education at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where where she received Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) and Master of Fine Arts (MFA) degrees in Textile Art and Media. This academic background has been instrumental in shaping myherartistic vision and technique. Her work has been featured in various group exhibitions, showcasing engagement with contemporary textile art. Notable exhibitions include “Meno kodas 2022” at the 4th Biennial of Alytus Young Artists in the Alytus Art Gallery, “Restart: Japanese and Lithuanian Contemporary Textile Art” at the Kaunas Picture Gallery, “Mapping” at the MTU Gallery in Cork, Ireland, and the “Graduation Show 2024” at the Vilnius Academy of Fine Arts in Kaunas. She have also had the opportunity to present her research at significant conferences. For example  participated in the “Make 2023: Making and Place” Postgraduate Research Symposium at the MTU Crawford College of Art and Design in Cork, Ireland. Additionally she have conducted workshops such as “Jaunas – jaunam: tekstilė ateičiai” at the Vilnius Academy of Arts, where she shared her knowledge and inspired the next generation of textile artists. Volunteering has been essential part of her career, particularly with the Kaunas Biennial. She contributed to its success across multiple editions, including the 12th Kaunas Biennial: “AFTER LEAVING | BEFORE ARRIVING,” the 13th Kaunas Biennial: “Once Upon Another Time… gyveno jie jau kitaip,” and the 14th Kaunas Biennial: “Long-distance Friendships.” She works mainly with embroidery machines and artificial intelligence, integrating the latest and most innovative digital textile technologies into her practice. Through her exhibitions, conferences, workshops, and volunteer work, she remains committed to the field of textile art and continuously strive to foster artistic communities both locally and internationally.
