Fanny Varjo Emerging artist

Fanny Varjo

Artist's country of origin: Finland

Fanny Varjo (b. 1995) is based in Helsinki, Finland. She creates installations composed of corporeal works that incorporate a variety of materials, including wood, dyed hair, metal, cast metal, ceramics and glass. She is fascinated by the tension that arises from combining elements that are both cute and grotesque. Recently, her work has drawn inspiration from historical narratives and myths. The themes may be contradictory, but there is always humour and joy included in the sculptures.

Her work has been exhibited in several solo and group shows across Finland, including at the Museum of Natural History in Helsinki and the Kunsthalle Turku. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree from the department of sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts, Helsinki.
