Emma Nygren

Artist's country of origin: Sweden

Emma Nygren is a visual artist based in Umeå whose practice is rooted in contemporary installation and conceptual art. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Art from Umeå Academy of Fine Arts, Umeå University (2025), and previously completed preparatory studies at Umeå Art School. Her work often engages with themes related to place, presence, and social dynamics, and she frequently explores the intersection between personal narrative and broader societal issues.

Nygren has participated in several group exhibitions across Sweden, including Reflector, Part 2 at Konsthallen ABC in Stockholm and Gynnsamt inställd at Galleri Verkligheten in Umeå. In 2023, she held her first solo exhibition, Omkring skogen, at Julias fotspår in Robertsfors. Beyond her own artistic practice, she is actively involved in curatorial and community-based projects. Notably, she curated the exhibition Where Does the River Flow as part of Festiälv and took part in Artistic Perspectives on Male Violence Against Women, which culminated in a performance and artist talk on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women in 2024.

Nygren is a board member of Mareld – Västerbotten’s Art Association and previously served as treasurer of the Student Union at Umeå Academy of Fine Arts. Her work reflects a commitment to both artistic exploration and active engagement within the artistic community.
