Elza Lapiņa Emerging artist
Artist's country of origin: Latvia
In summer of 2022 I finished my Bachelors studies at The Art Academy of Latvia, Faculty of Audio-Visual Media Art: “Motion. Image. Sound.” department. Spent my 3rd year in exchange programme in KASK & Conservatorium School of Arts Ghent, in Belgium. In my artistic practice I make audio-visual works and installations, usually in the form of videos, animated short films, sound, sculpture, wood, large prints and other materials. I also work with site-specific spots and places. Creating my artworks (installations) depending on the given environment at its intended place of exhibition. For me it does not matter if the chosen spot is external or internal, I like to adjust and challenge myself to new environments using different kinds of materials. Additionally to my Bachelors degree, in 2016 I graduated from Riga Building College as Polychrome-wood restorer-conservator and been working in the field ever since and trying to integrate as the main theme the concept and the specific of technologies of restoration-conservation in to my installations. I have participated in various group shows/exhibitions and also in my first solo show in the late summer of 2022.
