Daria Morozova (b. 2002) is a Russian-born Estonian painter whose work explores themes of identity, belonging, and adaptation. She is interested in how people perceive their belonging and roots when their native language differs from the official language or when they have created a new home elsewhere. Like seeds carried by the wind, people take root in new environments, searching for a connection to their origins. Morozova’s paintings are based on personal experiences and reflect the liminality between presence and invisibility. Her works do not offer direct answers, but create space for reflection on who we are and how to navigate in a time of constant movement and loneliness. She treats painting as a dialogue in which figurativeness is intertwined with abstraction and a limited color palette emphasizes emotional charge. The color blue recurs in her works as a carrier of loneliness, longing, and the need for closeness. In addition to painting, Morozova explores audiovisual and installation forms to create a holistic spatial experience and actively engage the viewer. The audience’s thoughts and experiences are an important part of her creative process, shaping new meanings and directions in her subsequent works. Morozova graduated from the Estonian Academy of Arts with a BA in painting (2024) and is continuing her master’s studies in contemporary art there. From 2024 to 2025, she was an artist-in-residence with Evy Jokhova in Lisbon. Her recent exhibitions include “I Am Here” (Tartu Art House, 2025), “Maavaringlus” (Keskpuur, Tallinn, 2024), “Saada uueks” (NART, Narva, 2024), and the group exhibition “Elu ei saa kunagi peatada” (Tallinn City Gallery, 2025).
