Chloé Geinoz Emerging artist

Artist's country of origin: Estonia
Chloé Geinoz (b. 1998) is a Tallinn-based interdisciplinary artist from Fribourg, Switzerland. Originally from a small village in the canton of Fribourg, her artistic practice lies at the intersection of experimental video, installation, performance, and research. She explores forgotten narratives, silent memories, and the intergenerational transmission of beliefs, traumas, and ancestral knowledge. Caught between Swiss folklore and a strong Catholic heritage, she experiences a cultural tension between an erased pagan past and a dominant religious tradition. This rupture—particularly visible in the historical narratives surrounding the witch-hunts in Switzerland—anchors much of her work. Through archival research and a return to the childhood stories told by her grandparents, she seeks to reactivate marginalised voices and connect them to her own memory. Using immersive installations, site-specific videos, and symbolic natural elements such as water, her work questions what lingers within us—often without our awareness. She creates sensitive narratives that merge the personal and the political, inviting viewers to navigate liminal spaces where oblivion and revelation coexist. Since 2020, she has been the assistant of Swiss photographer and artist Stéphane Winter, with whom she also took part in a residency at Abstract Art Space in Lausanne (2021). She continued her research-based practice through several artist residencies, including one with Michaël Tsang in Piano di Campo (2023), and a collective residency on Aegna Island (2024) alongside international artists, curated by Keithy Kuuspu. Her work has been shown in exhibitions across Switzerland and Estonia, including: – Book Launch HIT Journal 2020, HIT, Geneva (2021) – sound piece 3 zoom with Léna Gelsomino and Roxane Christinet – Essentielle Poussière, Festival du Simplon, VASA & Cie, Lausanne (2021) – ZAPP UURIMINE SPIOON, Abstract, Lausanne (2021) – with Stéphane Winter – Bachelor Graduation Show, ECAL, Lausanne (2022) – Young Sculptor Award, EKKM, Tallinn (2024), where she received an honourable mention from the jury – AEGn/a: Näitus Tallinna kesklinnas, Aegna Island (2024) – Translucent Dreams, EKA Gallery, Tallinn (2024) – with Rose Magee, KitKit Para, Vitor Pascale, and Syed Sachal Rizvi – Respiratory Rate, Vent Space, Tallinn (2024) – duo show with Eleftheria Eirini Kofidou – TASE, EKA MA graduation show, Tallinn (2025)
