Aira Rautso
Artist's country of origin: Estonia
Aira Rautso (born in 1954) graduated from Tallinn University in 1978. Since 1980 she is teaching at the Jõhvi Art School.
Her paintings have been displayed at many solo and group exhibitions in Estonia, Scandinavia and Germany.
In 2008 she joined the Estonian Artists Union.
Her mostly abstract pictorial language uses clearly recognizable forms from nature. Hyperrealistic elements have been added to the work of recent years. She likes to paint series of pictures – „Estonian Landscapes”, „My Cathedrals”,
„Glass Ball Game”. She uses acrylic paints and mixed media in her paintings.
The last solo exhibition was in the summer of 2022 at the Vabaduse Gallery in Tallinn.
Aira Rautso’s art has won her the 2004 Ida-Virumaa Culture Award and the Award for Creative Work of the Ida-Virumaa Cultural Endowment in 2006 and 2014.
Her works are represented in private collections in Estonia, Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark and the USA.
