Representing representations, 2021

graphite / paper / digital photography It’s an installation of 23 drawings, a photo and a sound of a clock.

The 23 drawings are a series of copies. I first drew a copy of a photo, then copied that copy and repeated this process again and again. Without looking back at the previous drawings. I wanted to discover what image may result from this game of repetition and form a symbol for changes occurring in images travelling through time in history. The most importants is the first and the last drawing – if put next to one another, you can see how it has changed in the process of repetition, but if you follow a slow line and look at each of the steps of the copies from 1 to 23, the changes seem so subttle as if not existing at all. As well in life – when we retell a story, it seems like a good retell of the original event, but if you retell it more and more the story changes and becomes something completly new – a myth. The work was exhibited in and exhibition “Slow scenes” togethr with a work by Jānis Krauklis at gallery “Smiļka”, Riga (04.06. – 20.06.2021).
