“A lot has been going on in my head as I was trying to figure out this war. I know that the war in Ukraine started back in 2014 but no one was prepared for such an enormous invasion that happened in 2022. I started making parallels with the power of nature. Found this picture of a lightning strike over some city in an old science book from my childhood. The description of the photograph said: Lightning strike shuts down the streetlamps. Lightning can heat up the air up to 30 000 Celsius in just 0,00005 seconds. I’ve made a composition out of that photograph using felt-tip pens. About the series: As the year 2022 was the year of the war in Ukraine, the biggest full-scale war since world war two, I had real doubts about my usual artistic practice of oil painting. I suddenly felt that painting is of no use now because simple protest poster has more meaning now, and most importantly – more power.”
